July 31 - La Bamba
Sunday was a reading for class day until it was time to grab the tram to A’s house in Preston. We were going to make Mexican food. When I got to A’s, we left for the grocery store and picked up tortillas, fajita mix, and fajita fixins. We stopped at the Bottle Shop (what they call liquor stores) to purchase grenadine for Tequila Sunrises.
We got back to A’s and I started slicing the peppers (or capsicum) and onions, then got the chicken going in the pan with the mix. Added the peppers/onions. We got the beans warm. We had cheese, guacamole, sour cream, lettuce, and tomatoes mixed with canned jalapenos (our own version of salsa or pico). The one thing that really threw me about the fajita mix here is that it is flavored. I mean, not fajita flavored, but “Smoky BBQ flavor”. WHAT THE HECK? Fajitas taste like fajitas. That IS the flavor, not bbq?! Ugh. So other than that slight setback, they tasted alright. I had three and it was hurting. A made it to 4 but was feeling pretty ill after.
We cleaned up and he went to make a call, so I sat down with his roomie’s and learned to play Canasta. Then we all watched a segment of Oz and it was pretty much bedtime.
