Sept 12-22 - Ordinary World

Yes, sadly, I can condense two weeks into one entry. Here are some highlights:

Mon12: Had my first trial day at the restaurant Mosskito. It's motto is "Think Big" and they arent kidding! The plates are huge and heavy and topped with food. You definitely get your money's worth! The place itself is in Clifton Hill, a suburb near to the city about a 30min tram ride away. Kim, Runa, and I all went, but they only ended up wanting one of us to stay to train that night and so I went first. The other girls came back on Tuesday and Wednesday. The atmosphere is cool. The manager I worked with is a bit of a pretty boy and slightly high strung... everyone else is cool. I worked about 3 hours of actual running food time and got the job.

By the way, it was my 2month anniversary of being in Australia.

Tues13: Changed my mind about my research question and rewrote the last of my essay and took it to turn in to my tutor. New question: WHY are adults reading Harry Potter?

Wed14: Had a presentation to give... turned out I was a week early in having it ready. Got to chill out in class instead.
Premi and I went for dinner in Fitzroy area - about a 40 min tram ride. Ended up at a place called Mamma Vittoria. It was excellent. We had mussels to start. Premi had a white fish in a lemon cream thyme sauce and I had a ribeye with veggies that was super yum. We ordered a vanilla caramel custard for dessert and it was so good we ordered a second one. Then I had a glass of lemoncello. Fabuloso! It was supposed to be my birthday present to him, but when he found out that I had tried to pay while he was in the toilet... he got upset and was adament that he pay. So what's a girl to do??

Thurs15: Work night #2. Liked the manager I worked with on this evening better. People were super helpful and nice. The table numbers can get a bit wacky and my wrists got so tired after holding all the heavy plates. Not sure how I'm going to make it!

Fri16: Cooked Asian feast with Premi for his cousin, cousin's girlfriend, and the usualy Lankan suspects and Kim. Served up chili prawns, chicken stir fry (that was sooo good!!) and veggie omelets (which believe me were Asian in style). It was all very good! We went to the grocery and Lankan store to buy the supplies beforehand and two things happened: 1- I lost my keys to my room and the building (which I realized after we left and then went back and fortunately someone had turned them in at the grocery store and 2- We saw a rainbow that made a complete arch. It was beautiful. I dont know that I've ever seen one make the complete arch and it was incredibly vibrant too. Makes me wonder what someone, like Premi, who is colorblind sees when they look at a rainbow. All I know is that it was a really cool and wished I had my camera with me at the time.

Sat17: Happy Birthday to MOMMY!!! Worked at Mosskito again. I was sooo pooped by the time I left I was thinking NO WAY I can do this. But I ran food all night and it was very busy. I get my own tables next time.

Sunday18: Rested.

Mon19: Turned my Media Map entries in. Go see them here. Go to the Media Map - Community - Festivals and Events and then read Asian Food Festival, A Taste of Slow, and Motorola Melb Spring Fashion Week (and yes, the type on "journalist" is getting fixed).

Tues20: Class. Blah.

Wed21: Class. Then caught up with Kim to hit the city to meet some gals at a pub called The Stork. Had dinner and a drink there before heading back for our regular Wednesday night place. Our band guys werent playing, instead there were these other guys who were good, but a bit scary looking. We didnt stay long. I spent most of my evening searching for accommodation in Sydney for New Years while writing emails back and forth to my sister for her input. Let's just say...it was not looking good.

Thurs22: Holy cow...midday I FINALLY found accommodation within a non-budget breaking price range! Emailed my travel lady and booked our tickets. Spent a lot of time working on itinerary stuff for sis's visit. Also got stuff out for Tazzy trip. I'll be gone for the week, starting tomorrow night, to Tasmania. It's SPRING BREAK TIME!!!!

I think adults read HP because it is a great way to escape, share time with children, etc. It is a safe fanasty trip for most of us.
