July 18 - Seek Ye First

Life is unfair. I woke up with a sore throat! So I skipped the library tour to catch a bit more sleep and a hot shower to clear my head of whatever was ailing it. I made it to the bookstore in time to get my timetable sorted for the classes I wanted to take. I got free lunch again – this time the International Student Assoc. put on a BBQ for us and I ate something that resembled a burger, but not quite sure. HA! Then my main class for the day was “Ask an Academic” and this really funny professor got up and told us what to expect from our professors and tutors and how to get by and handle our course loads and what happens if we get sick, etc. He was very informative and a total laugh.

Since I was still feeling poopy, I went ahead and came back to take a short nap so I could make the 5pm bus tour of St. Kilda since I had actually paid for it. The trip was good.

St. Kilda is a suburb nearly an hour from campus by mass transit and right on the bay. It’s very funky and young. I believe the US Consulate is somewhere in St. Kilda if I recall correctly from something I read. Anyhow, I look forward to making it back there when I have more time. It had great views across the bay looking back over to the city. We had dinner on Acland Street before heading back. We had a good tour of the city and the street closest to campus with some good pubs. I was feeling pretty miserable near the end of the tour though and was fortunate to have someone drive me back across campus to the grad house. It was straight to bed from there.
